Baloch, the former vice-chancellor of Sindh University, Shahdadpur was founded by Mir Shahdad Khan, son of Rasheed Khan, with the assistance of Leghari administrators during 1125-1128 AH (1713-1715). It served as the capital of upper Sindh during that time. In 1116 AH (1704 AD), Mir Shahdad Khan came to be known as Riffat Panah, signifying “His Eminence.” He undertook various initiatives to develop the city, such as cultivating barren lands, enhancing security to reduce crime, and establishing a system for equitable produce sharing between landowners and farmers. The renovation, extension, and construction of canals and waterways were also carried out under his leadership, contributing to the growth of the settlement.
