پیریزے کا مطلب ہوتا ہے "خوشبو" یا "مہک"۔ یہ لفظ فارسی زبان سے اردو میں آیا ہے۔ قرآن میں بھی اس کا ذکر آیا ہے، مثلاً سورة الرحمن میں آیت نمبر ۴۶ میں آیا ہے:
"مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ * بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَا يَبْغِيَانِ"
اس آیت میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا بیان ہے کہ دونوں سمندروں کو آپس میں ملانے والی بحری رسی ہے جو ایک دوسرے کے پاس نہیں جا سکتی۔
