کوثر نام اردو زبان میں بہت ہی خوبصورت اور پیارا نام ہے۔ یہ نام عربی زبان سے لیا گیا ہے اور اس کا مطلب "بہترین" یا "بہترین چیز" ہوتا ہے۔ قرآن میں بھی اس نام کا ذکر آیا ہے۔
قرآن میں سورة الکوثر کے نام سے بھی جانی جاتی ہے جو قرآن کا سورہ نمبر 108 ہے۔ یہ سورہ پیغمبر محمد ﷺ کو نازل ہوئی اور اس میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا ہے:
إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ
جو معنی ہوتے ہیں:
"ہم نے تم کو کوثر عطا فرمایا ہے۔ تو اپنے رب کے لئے نماز پڑھا کرو اور قربانی کر۔ بے شک تیرا دشمن بے نسب ہوگا۔"
