کہف نام اردو زبان میں استعمال ہونے والا ایک لفظ ہے جس کا مطلب "غار" ہوتا ہے۔ یہ لفظ عربی زبان میں بھی استعمال ہوتا ہے اور قرآن مجید میں بھی آیا ہے۔ کہف کا ذکر سورہ الکہف میں بھی کیا گیا ہے جو قرآن کا پچاسواں سورہ ہے۔ اس سورہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے کہف کی کہانی بیان کی ہے جس میں ایک گروہ نوجوانوں نے دنیا کی فساد و فسوق سے بچنے کے لئے کہف میں پناہ لی تھی۔ ان کے رب نے ان کو سونے کی نیند میں رکھ دیا تھا اور وہاں پر ۳۰۰ سال تک رہنے کے بعد وہ باہر نکلے تو دیکھا کہ دنیا کی صورت بالکل تبدیل ہو چکی تھی۔
