حمائل نام کا مطلب "محافظ" یا "حامی" ہوتا ہے۔ یہ لفظ عربی زبان سے اردو میں آیا ہے۔ حمائل اللہ کے صفات میں سے ایک ہے جو اللہ کی حفاظت کرنے والا ہوتا ہے۔
قرآن میں بھی حمائل کا ذکر آیا ہے۔ سورہ الفلق کی آیت نمبر ۵ میں آیا ہے:
"مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ"
یعنی "وہ برائی کے بدلے جو خدا نے پیدا کی ہے"
