South West India extends over the regions in the states and territories of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Goa, Pondicherry,Kochi, and Lakshadweep. The culture and literature of the area date back thousands of years. The area is dominated by the Deccan Plateau, and has a tropical climate with monsoons. The most populous cities as of 2008 include Mumbai, Pune,Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Madurai,Tiruchirapalli, Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mysore,and Mangalore.
