حبیب اللہ نام کا مطلب "اللہ کا دوست" ہوتا ہے۔ یہ نام عربی زبان سے لیا گیا ہے جہاں "حبیب" کا مطلب "دوست" اور "اللہ" کا مطلب "خدا" ہوتا ہے۔ یہ نام اسلامی ناموں کی فہرست میں بھی شامل ہے اور قرآن میں بھی آیا ہے۔
قرآن میں "حبیب اللہ" کا ذکر سورۃ النساء کی آیت نمبر ۶ میں آتا ہے جہاں اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتے ہیں:
"اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَوْلِيَاؤُهُمُ الطَّاغُوتُ يُخْرِجُونَهُم مِّنَ النُّورِ إِلَى الظُّلُمَاتِ ۗ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ"
اس آیت میں اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے مومن بندوں کو اندھیرے سے نور کی طرف لے جاتے ہیں جبکہ کافران کے ولی طاغوت انہیں نور سے اندھیرے کی طرف لے جاتے ہیں۔
